Occasionally at very short notice we need fosterers who can give a dog a home and care for them until their new forever home is found.
We need volunteers who can go to the kennels each week in all weathers to take the dogs out and allow them to have quality time outside their usual environment. This vitally important time can include activities such as dog socialisation, playing and being groomed. These walking sessions also form a very important part of the training for the dogs moving to new homes. Often the dog walkers are people who have owned German Shepherd Dogs before but who are unable to commit to full time care. Experience of German Shepherds is certainly preferable as some of the dogs may be lacking in confidence and social skills.
We also invite those who have passed their home check but who have not owned a dog for a while to come along and walk with the volunteers to gain experience before committing to a dog.
This will involve travelling to various locations to assess if a home is suitable for one of our dogs and often carry out follow up visits. This job is really only suitable for those who have many years experience of this breed.
Volunteers who offer to help us with this will need to be fully checked by GSRS for their suitability.
Could you help by collecting or taking a dog to an owner or fosterer? Could you take a dog for a veterinary visit. We welcome anyone who can help us in these areas.
Without our team of volunteers and the huge generosity of our supporters GSRS would not be able to fund the work it does. Kennels and veterinary costs are our biggest expenditure and we continually look at ways to raise more funds to help, look after and protect this wonderful breed.
Perhaps you can help cover our stand at events? or would you make things for us to sell or auction?
Without you, and all the various ways you can help, we would not be able to bring in the much needed money to fund the rescue and look after our dogs.
Please come and join us. You can make lots of new friends, all who have one very special thing in common – the love of German Shepherds.
