It seems incredible that earlier this summer we first brought everyone to the attention of gorgeous Alfie.
Born in litter of 6 pups Alfie sadly had an eye defect, (His eyes did not fill their sockets correctly) plus he also had cataracts, so consequently was blind. He was left on his own in a kennel for 5 months. He had very little human contact but was let out during the day to play with the other dogs.

GSRS were asked if they could help. With the amazing and unexpected assistance of comedy legend Ricky Gervais and the absolutely staggering generosity of so many people, enough money was raised in just a few days for Alfie to undergo an operation by the Optivet specialists to have the cataracts removed.

This operation has been a complete success and Alfie can now see.
We don’t know as yet if Alfie will need further treatment as he gets older but the specialists are not expecting any problems. He will need a yearly check-up to monitor things.

Alfie is currently in a foster home with four other dogs and several cats. He is happy and confident in the home but is very nervous when outside. With regular outside trips and walks this will improve.
He is not a lover car trips, but generally he does travel well, although he does dribble through the journey.

Now eight months old Alfie really needs a home with another large breed dog to help him with his confidence levels and also where someone is around most of the time.
Ideally the home location needs to be within easy access of one of the Optivet branches so he can have his annual check-up.

If you feel you can give this vaccinated and micro-chipped little boy his forever home please go to our adoption page and complete our online questionnaire
